On the 3rd April we put our walking shoes on and celebrated national walking day with a fun challenge at Performance in People (PiP) HQ, whilst also raising money for WightAid. We held a bake sale in the morning with some treats made by our wonderful team at PiP. The morning kicked off to a good start with lots of donations and big efforts made to get the distance in early – one of our colleagues even got up at the crack of dawn to walk 13km into work!

Team Tortoise vs Team Hare

It was then time… on your marks, get set, go! We started the challenge by splitting everyone into two teams, team tortoise and team hare. Remember its not always the fastest who wins the race! We wanted to encourage everyone to get their walking shoes on and get as many steps in as possible - using the Strava app to record our walking and running activity in each team. We walked into work, during lunch and break times, and converted some sit-down meetings into walking meetings all to get those extra miles in - we’ve got a very competitive bunch at PiP!

£291 raised for WightAid

With a huge effort from everyone, we collectively managed to raise a massive £291 on the day for WightAid! WightAid help fund island charities and organisation for those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill health, disability, financial hardship, or other disadvantages. They have helped over 224 separate organisations, distributed over 450 grants and more than £650k given to local charities.

We walked almost 110 miles!

Team Tortoise achieved 53.6 miles, and Team Hare just about managed to take the victory with 55.7 miles! We awarded the winning team each with an easter egg for achieving the furthest overall distance on the day. We want to say a huge thank you for everyone that tied up their laces and got involved, helping us raise money for an incredible cause.
